PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT RECEIVES 2 MOTORCYCLES UNDER NOSP PROJECT

Amuru production department received 2 Motorcycles on Wednesday courtesy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).
The motorcycles under the number plate UG 3892A and UG 3891A are to help the production agricultural extension staff reach out to the grassroots community with agricultural support services under the National Oil seeds project (NOSP).
Amuru Production officer, Simon Peter Komakech said that Amuru district is among the 81 district across the country that is benefiting from the National Oil seed project being funded with a loan by the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID).
According to Mr. Komakech, the sub counties that are benefiting from this project include; Amuru, Guruguru, Lamogi, Pogo, and Atiak and the district is targeting growing of oil seeds like Groundnuts, Soya bean, Simsim and Sun flower.
He adds that with reliable transport, the agricultural extension workers can now reach the grassroots community with ease and offer them services like capacity building and access to market for their products.
While handing over the motorcycles to the staff, Amuru Chief Administrative Officer who was represented by the PHRO, James Onen appealed to the extension staff to take good care of the machines so that it can serve its intended purpose in service delivery.
Meanwhile, Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Local Government is implementing a 7-year (2021-2027) National Oilseeds Project (NOSP) with the goal to provide inclusive rural transformation through sustainable development of the oilseeds sector.
